Italian Speaking Working Group

The Gruppo Ematologi Forensi Italiani (GeFI) was created in 1964 and it consists of approximately 100 scientists, mostly of the forensic area. The requirements for being enrolled in the GeFI are, in this order:

  • to be a practitioner in the field
  • to be accepted by the ISFG

Since 2006 the group has worked on collaborative exercises on the following topics:

  • Italian database of 16 Y-STRs and analysis of mutation rate by pairwise typing of first cousins
  • Allele frequency of NC01 "MiniSTR" multiplex loci in Italy

New collaborative exercises are in development:

  • typing of 8 X-STRs by using the Mentype Argus X-8 kit
  • haplogrouping of Y-SNPs by using published multiplexes (Onofri et al, Forensic Sci. Int. 2006)
